First Week (August 7th-9th)
Due to time problems, I have decided to post about my lessons once a week instead of doing it right after the class delivered.
August 7th (45 min.)
I just started to put into practice the concept of putting the class activities on the board.
I wrote the class activities which where the following:
- Reading the text "Extreme Amazon"
- Underlying the adjectives they could find the text.
- Circlyng the new words of text.
The idea was that the students could identify the adjectives, which we have been studying for the last week.
The secondary object was to identify new words from the text and make the students to help each other to find out the meaning of these words.
I think that having the students aware of what the day activities were, helped me to avoid the common problem of having students "lost".
They did a great job identifying the adjectives. They tended to confuse some nouns with adjectives.
I'm really glad about the performance of the students in these activities, even though they were not very funny or maybe appealing for them.
August 8th (90 min.)
I continued writing the class activities on the board. The activities were the following:
- Reading the text "Extreme Amazon" again.
- Answering five multiple choice questions.
- Creating a dialog in pairs using superlatives.
- Performing the dialog in front of the class.
It was very easy for the students to answer the questions. They got really engaged in this activity. I think that the reading comprehension was easy for them, because they have a good level of English.
Preparing the dialog took longer than I thought. I guess that productive skills are harder for learners. I was amazed by the students creations. They did a great job, they make the conversation very funny and we have a lot of fun when the students presented their dialogs in front of the rest of their classmates. Some of them actually acted it out!
It was a really fun class. I had fun, and it seems to me that they did have fun ,too.
Placing the class activities on the board was very helpful for the students.
August 9th (90 min.)
This class was a bit different from the other previous ones. It was time for us to work on a small project. The activities were the following:
- Answering a few questions about the extreme place they previously chose.
- Showing the questions to the teacher to check them.
- Working on a piece of cardboard. Including 5 pictures of the place chosen, ans writing the information asked.
This lesson was a lot longer than I thought, they didn't finish the activity in the class time! I will have to continue on Wednesday.
I explained the activity through steps. They were following the steps that were written on the board.
They did a great job and they were really concentrated to work on this. Maybe because this was an evaluation process.
The idea is that next class they finish, and next week we will have a brief exhibition in which they will talk about their place.
